Ski-ing in the Fort William area
Nevis
Croft is the ideal base for ski-ing and snowboarding in the west of Scotland.
There are two ski resorts within reach of Fort William: Nevis Range near
Fort William, the Glencoe Mountain Resort.
Situated
about 6 miles to the north of Nevis croft he ski-ing at Nevis Range takes
place on Aonach Mor mountain, a near neabour of BenNevis. Access to the
ski-ing is by the Nevis Range mountain gondola system, the only one of
its kind in Britain. The gondola is also widely used as a short cut by
climbers to the many challenging winter climbing routes. It is well worth
a trip up the Gongola even if you are not ski-ing, on a clear day the
views are stunning and wide ranging.
Nevis Range offers great terrain for skiers of all abilities, beginners
make use of the variety of green runs literally a step off the gondola,
whilst intermediates are spoilt for choice with over 25 groomed blue and
red runs. Good skiers are well catered for by the opening up of the back
corrie area, this is a wild off piste section that is widely regarded
as the best in the UK.
 Glencoe
mountain resort , formerly known as the White Corries ski area, is located
just off the A82 about 22 miles from Fort William at the top of Glen Coe.
It was the original commercial ski-ing in Scottland, with the construction
of the first proper ski lift in 1956. The ski-ing is on the Meall A'Bhuiridh
mountain in stunning scenery and is often described as being less commercial
than its nearest competitors.
There are 7 lifts and about 19 runs with the longest being 1.6 kms. The
ski-ing is suitable for all abilities and is particularly favoured by
snow boarders, there is some quite challenging and varied off piste
